Updates? What is this, a blog?

So I started this thing with the intent to write semi-often. As per usual, I’ve fallen off drastically. Well, here’s the magical “How Stuff’s Going” catch-up post!
Ager Acres: We have a mole … or fifty. Seriously, the ground is chewed up to an unreal degree. Something drastic might have to be done. [...]

Ownership Anniversary

As of yesterday morning, we’ve officially owned our home for one year.
Wow.
We’ve done a fair amount of work in that year, although finishing the paint in the hallway (primed LAST January) will wait until we can open windows again, as we’re not too keen on Isaac sucking down lots of paint vapors.
Always more to do, [...]

Tree-cuttin’ Fools (2005 Edition)

Found the ancient (year-old) tree-cutting photos. See them here.

Brewing and Decorating

So on Friday, November 25, 2005, I ended the 6-year Homebrewing Hiatus. One batch of Colum^h^h^h^h Centennial IPA in the tank, fermenting strongly at 60F (woopsie, a touch cold there). This time around, I added a spigot to my basic 5-gallon kettle, to make draining the wort post-boil easier. Worked like a [...]

Battening down the hatches

I continue to be amazed that I’m able to get things done around the house. This weekend, I finished off all but a few tweaks to the basement-sealing project, which involved finding all manner of window inserts that fit the basement windows. And clearing away all the dirt from the southeast side, which [...]

Blog? What Blog?

Things have been busy around here.
A certain small person has been taking up vast amounts of time (wonderful, joyous, albeit occasionally smelly time), and when we’re not tending to him, the following stuff has been going on:

Attended beer festival in Boston, 10/29 (Isaac and Laura visited Deirdre, Lisa, and Anya)
Working out aggravatingly strange argument between [...]

Weekend Work

At long last, I attacked the rotted-out siding above the porch. Colin came over to help out, and we knocked this out in about two hours or so (not counting much running around collecting nails, tarpaper, and tools).
Actually, once things got going, the actual installation was easy, and it looks good:

I see now [...]

Recent Projects

After work last Wednesday, I was frustrated after having a particularly unproductive day, so I went and built a lawn waste composter in about 20 minutes. That felt GOOD! It’s big, too — roughly 8 feet by 4 feet (used all but 2 feet or so of a 25-foot roll of PVC netting), [...]

Heat and Cold

Thank jeebus I locked in heating oil costs at $2.14/gallon in June. And to think I was tweaked because I missed out on the $2.09 rate by 12 hours (thanks, London bombers). With temperatures knocking at the mid-30s at night coming up rather soon, I’m calling in the pros to tighten up parts [...]

Waitin’ and A-Paintin’

No Baby Yet.
So, I filled my time by packing the ceiling of the bedroom with insulation, so as to muffle the sounds from the apartment above. So far, it seems to be doing a bang-up job, so I see more of this in my future. Then, I mowed the lawns, which, while exhausting, [...]
