Sumac, Ow.
All this crap used to be here:
Every last muscle in my arms, legs, and back hurts now. And I’m not done, but I far prefer the hill without the crappy sumac!
(Luckily, it’s not poison sumac!)

We’ve got moles. A lot of them.
A veritable molar metropolis has sprung up in our yard … and there’s a LOT of yard, which is now riddled with spongy parts and holes and ankle-twisting traps. The tunnels are well into the neighbor’s yard as well. Suggested repellents range from castor oil “humane” [...]
So I started this thing with the intent to write semi-often. As per usual, I’ve fallen off drastically. Well, here’s the magical “How Stuff’s Going” catch-up post!
Ager Acres: We have a mole … or fifty. Seriously, the ground is chewed up to an unreal degree. Something drastic might have to be done. [...]
As of yesterday morning, we’ve officially owned our home for one year.
Wow.
We’ve done a fair amount of work in that year, although finishing the paint in the hallway (primed LAST January) will wait until we can open windows again, as we’re not too keen on Isaac sucking down lots of paint vapors.
Always more to do, [...]
Things have been busy around here.
A certain small person has been taking up vast amounts of time (wonderful, joyous, albeit occasionally smelly time), and when we’re not tending to him, the following stuff has been going on:
Attended beer festival in Boston, 10/29 (Isaac and Laura visited Deirdre, Lisa, and Anya)
Working out aggravatingly strange argument between [...]
After work last Wednesday, I was frustrated after having a particularly unproductive day, so I went and built a lawn waste composter in about 20 minutes. That felt GOOD! It’s big, too — roughly 8 feet by 4 feet (used all but 2 feet or so of a 25-foot roll of PVC netting), [...]
First off, props to Ask This Old House, where I saw a quick-hit segment on lawnmower maintenance. Since I’ve never owned a power mower before, this was somewhat important. So after taking the time to scrape the crud off the underside of the deck, then spray it down with a dry lubricant, all [...]
I didn’t think, initially, that my plans to mow the lawn, seal a leaky shutoff valve, and prime 3 rooms was overly ambitious.
Then I mowed the lawn. Saturday, 11:30AM, about 88F outside. No sunscreen, very little liquid. Wooops.
First off, this is only the second time I’ve attempted the whole shebang — it [...]
Lots and lots of joint compound this weekend. Big fun! Pictures to come soon. Also, a few more sightings of the woodchuck (or groundhog, if you’re from Pennsylvania), whose name is now “Eddie.” Eddie lives under our shed. Eddie’s pretty damn big. Blurry shot of Eddie coming soon.
It does [...]
Today, we did yardwork. Over 70 degrees outside, sunny, and damn does the yard look like crap. Of course, nothing had been done to it since mid-August of 2004, so I suppose that’s not too surprising. Still, something had to be done.
So we raked up the fall’s leaves, cleared out what appears to [...]
