Harry Potter, and Beer
A more perfect nerdalicious weekend could not be envisioned.
Saturday: wake up, mess around with Isaac, begin waiting anxiously for THE BOX to arrive. Call UPS … repeatedly. Give up, decide to head out for the day as planned. Drive one block. See mail truck as we turn the corner. Cut back to that street, zip up to mailman: “Looking for your Harry Potter book, I guess?” Awesome mailman hands of book, we switch seats, and I read the first four chapters aloud on the way up to Burlington.
The Brewer’s Festival was fantastic, featuring great beer, lots of good people, stunningly gorgeous weather, and no more than 10 minutes TOTAL of waiting about in beer lines. One of the better festival experiences I’ve had in recent years, really.
Then, back to the car for a quick jaunt don I-89 to meet up with some friends for dinner — I read the next two chapters or so aloud. Great dinner with friends (whose copy of The Book was sitting on the table when we showed up at the brewpub), followed by reading through another few chapters on the ride home. Isaac to bed, and then we made our way through a few more pages before crashing out around 11 (er, I fell asleep far earlier, something to do with beer, I presume).
Sunday: wake up, catch up to Laura’s reading before Isaac awakes. Play with rambunctious child all morning. He goes down for his nap, we repair out to the porch to eat lunch with The Book propped between our plates. Then migrate to the outside bench, dashing through another goodly chunk of book before the nap ended. Then off to the science museum to play in the water park for a while, dinner for Isaac, more bouncing about, and then to bed. I read aloud for a chapter or so as dinner warmed up, then back outside to read/eat furiously … which continued until we finished at 11:35PM on Sunday night.
What an awesome, awesome book. Made for a phenomenal weekend!
