8 Iron-Clad Years

July 10, 1999, we were wed.

Today, in honor of that event, we purchased a cast iron skillet.

Yes, cast iron. All the “traditional” and “modern” officialized anniversary gift categories sucked (bronze? pottery (we have more than enough decorative pottery, thank you very much)? linens and lace? fie upon these things! fie!), so we decided over lunch to kick it our own style, and re-obtained a nice cast iron skillet from the local everything-on-god’s-green-earth-and-then-some store.  I say re-obtained, because while we were packing for the move to NYC back in 2000, we gave away all our cast iron stuff, an act that was done mainly out of packing desperation, and clearly the product of poor thought processes. So a wedding anniversary seems the proper time to begin rebuilding a good set of cast iron pans.
