How Blogs Start
A few months ago, this post, seen on Matt Haughey’s site, I believe, piqued my interest, having recently unloaded many hundreds of non-reimbursable dollars on glasses and prescription sunglasses.
Turns out there are many MANY folks whose interest was piqued, so now there\’s a devoted blog — Glassy Eyes — on how to get eyeglasses supercheap via the Internets.
I really hope that the guy makes some money from getting the word out. I intend to try this out in the new year, see if I can score a pair of glasses or shades for about the amount I set aside for myself on a weekly basis for generic spending: $60. The Glassy Eyes blog will be the guideline for this search.
This is also the model of how utility (rather than neato) blogs start. Somebody stumbles upon a topic that garners a response, and has some longevity to it. TONS of people need glasses, and the primary behavior is still store-based. And expen$ive, as most health plans seem to have dropped vision care almost entirely (aside from exams) by 2000 or so. I buy glasses using a reimbursement account, but I drained the damn thing replacing the glasses earlier this summer — I would have preferred to have a few pairs, plus sunglasses, for half the amount I spent on the regular and sunglasses I now own.
Which I am happy with, just not so much with the ~$600 total price tag. So go Glassy Eyes!
