Election
We voted early (but not often, not that we needed to) on Tuesday morning, on user-friendly pieces of paper marked with felt-tip pens.
All of New Hampshire apparently turned out blue this year, as not only did the two House seats go to Democrats, but the state House and Senate went as well. The Governor pretty well annihilated the Republican candidate (the two are, as it happens, not really that far apart on issues … welcome to New Hampshire). Still two Republican Senators, but neither seat was up this year.
I would hope that this vote is the sign of a country sick of extremism, hypocrisy, and single-ideology governance. Republican corruption and arrogance was the downfall, really, of the Gingrich Revolution. I’m not counting any 2008 chickens yet, since the Democrats who swept into Rep. seats nationwide aren’t really very liberal at all (more like one issue shy of Republicanism), but the positive thing was a national Democratic campaign that wasn’t slow, incompetent, and generally kludgy. Maybe they’ll continue to get this right in ‘08 … along with a candidate who can win.
Plus, Rummy’s out, so that’s interesting. Will that change bring real change? Hard to tell, but the symbolism of this Administration actually admitting that something ain’t right is enough to run on for a week or so, at least for me.
