Much Ado in Evanston
In a former life, I worked for Northwestern University, after picking up an unexpected advanced degree. During my time there, I became a somewhat fanatical college football fan, due to Big 10(11) proximity and the presence of large numbers of football players in the program that employed me … I knew the guys on the field.
So it was a shock last week to read this terrible news.
They’ve moved fast to hire a replacement, and they’ve made a bold-seeming choice — former standout linebacker Pat Fitzgerald, who’s 31. Bold is good, and nobody on that Rose Bowl team of 95-96 was bolder or more *into* Northwestern than Pat Fitzgerald. So I’m now hoping for a great Wildcat season, although it will be insanely tough.
