Brewing and Decorating
So on Friday, November 25, 2005, I ended the 6-year Homebrewing Hiatus. One batch of Colum^h^h^h^h Centennial IPA in the tank, fermenting strongly at 60F (woopsie, a touch cold there). This time around, I added a spigot to my basic 5-gallon kettle, to make draining the wort post-boil easier. Worked like a charm, except for the bit about forgetting what a freaking gloopy mess pellet hops turn into in the kettle. Ah well, that’s what a secondary fermenter is for. Batch will transfer to that tonight or tomorrow, depending on when I can get my hands on a racking cane.
It’s amazing the things you think you have but then don’t.
Oh yeah, and I forgot to take the hydrometer reading, too. Ah well, I’m not that concerned with details, just want a tasty IPA to put into the KEG! Yes, the other Big New Improvement will be kegging the beers. Tonight, I must finish cleaning and sanitizing the first keg. And soon I should pick up the CO2 tank. Next batch up will be a porter strongly hopped with Crystal hops, for the holiday-cinnamony combo they provide in conjunction with roasted malts. Yum!
Nine months now we’ve been in the house, and we finally started hanging pictures yesterday. ‘Bout time. It looks so much better with stuff on the walls! A few poster frames to obtain, and a few small IKEA frames to obtain, and most of the stuff we want up should be on the walls. Woo-hoo!
Maybe sometime before February 18, 2006, we’ll paint the hallway finally.
