A whole mess of deja vu
So the other morning I was walking out of the driveway on my way to the bus, and I heard a large truck idling up the street. Turned around to see what it was, and saw this truck, again.
This time, though, it was far away from my property. Freakishly, the thing was even loaded with a backhoe, again. *shudder*
Then, two nights ago, we were eating dinner when the phone rang. It was our old neighbor from School Street, Allison, infomring us that yes, as a matter of fact, her car was totalled *AGAIN* while parked in the driveway.
Again, you ask?
I refer you to July 5, 2004, when these photos were taken:

In that instance, the driver was a young guy, going way too fast around a sharp bend on a drizzly morning. He managed to avoid a tree, but then hit a stump which launched his car into, well, Allison’s passenger seat. And pushed her car into Dave’s truck. Which skidded to a halt somewhere in the 1-to-3-inch range from our 2-week-old car. All three vehicles were totalled.
Now, Wednesday night, I arrived a bit too late to get many pictures, but did see Allison’s crumpled mess of a car being hauled away, and got this photo:

This vehicle came in at roughly the same angle as the kid last year, except a full car width inside the tree stump launch-pad, so that it smacked her car direct on the side and spun it around, diverting the van into the side of the house, where it annihilated the basement hatchway, and also buckled a bit of the foundation and interior wall.
The driver was completely shitfaced. Of course.
If we had still been living there, we’d have lost one, if not BOTH of our cars. Fun. And to make things more interesting, the van driver tried to run, although being both completely canned and apparently quite obese, that wasn’t really a viable option, although he did make it around the block somehow (trailed by a local kid on a bike who had trouble keeping his balance due to the sheer tear-inducing comedy of the straight-from-COPS quality of the “escape.” Driver’s drinking buddy was of course passed out and injured in the vehicle still. Wonderful folks, these. At least my friends weren’t hurt.
